Change in Ownership...
On May 21, 2008, local entrepreneur Steve Schenian purchased Invincible™ Office Furniture forming the new entity of IMF Solutions, LLC d.b.a. Invincible. Schenian said the strengths of Invincible™ justified his investment . These strengths included a skilled work force manufacturing a high-quality product, a loyal group of sales representatives and dealers, consumers that want the high-quality products Invincible™ produces, and first rate customer service.
What we have here today at Invincible™ are well-trained tenured employees with an awesome work ethic who are committed to quality. We also have some new faces that are equally as talented bringing on a whole new fresh perspective. Both old and new personnel have become our factory family. This cohesive unit is a direct result of our owner, Steve Schenian, who has exemplified through his actions, that he is committed to Invincible’s success. His continued ongoing investments in hardware, software, manufacturing equipment, structural integrity of the buildings and grounds, taking care of his sales rep force in the field, and his generosity towards the people that he employs has given everyone here at Invincible™ a renewed sense of optimism. In the Beginning...
In 1904 the Invincible™ Electric Bank Protection Company began in Belle Plain, Iowa. Among the products produced were burglar alarms, safe deposit boxes, vaults and iron safes.
Reorganization took place in early 1913 and the firm began to manufacture metal office furniture in addition to the bank protection products.
A year later, the company then headquartered in Monroe, Wisconsin, demanded more room and moved into two adjacent factory buildings in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The new facility was 19,000 square feet on two floors and was located (at the present site) on the western boundary of the city at the corners of Franklin and 26th Streets. The former mattress and toy plants now became the Invincible™ Metal Furniture Company.
As the United States entered World War I, the US government awarded Invincible™ a contract for metal lockers to be used on Navy ships and other war materials. This contract continued through the end of the war in 1919.
Flying into History...
Business continued to grow under the leadership founder of John A. Schuette. Mr. Schuette, a WWI aviator, created the aircraft division of the company in the late 1920’s. The Invincible™ Center Wing monoplane was the result. “Wings are placed in alignment with the center of the propeller thrust, giving balance and greater speed under all flying conditions.”
Three different models were produced. But, as the local paper reported in 1979, “Although the aircraft built by Invincible were advanced for their day, the three planes designed were the only ones built. Further production of the aircraft was rudely interrupted by the Depression.”
Just Furniture...
By the end of the Depression over half of the country’s banks had closed, the market was flooded with used equipment and the demand for new bank protection equipment had evaporated. The company redirected all production and engineering efforts toward office furniture. During the years after the Depression and into World War II Invincible™ distinguished itself as a nationally known producer of metal filing products. Factory additions were a regular occurrence. Specialty files, as well as traditional vertical files were the mainstay of the business. A patented “personal safe” could be built into any of the 2, 3, and 4 drawer cabinets.
Beyond File Cabinets...
It wasn’t until the war was over that Invincible introduced their first line of desks.
The Modernaire was introduced in 1948. It became the signature product line of the company for the next 50 years and is still produced as the M-Line desk.
Desking systems were expanded again in 1960 with the introduction of the S-Line series. Soon to become the industry standard, the S-Line has been imitated by many and equaled by none. By 1970 a cleaner look became popular and the Cube Desk burst into corporate offices across the country.
Beyond Desks...
Late in the 1970’s panel systems “cubicles” became the norm for offices throughout the world.
Invincible’s entry into the panel systems market followed our tradition of excellent design and engineering to give us a system that was built beyond BIFMA specifications.
One of the only panels available with a complete steel core, we have greater “hang-on” strength than most other panels.
In the early 1990’s we introduced Vista 2000®. This line of modular furniture has the unique ability to combine our full height panels, traditional casegoods and privacy screens. Bringing together attractive design, easy installation and functionality Vista 2000® has become our leading product line in the new millennium.
As the company grew through the 1980’s and 90’s manufacturing and warehousing expanded to over 300,000 square feet. An expanding network of contract furniture dealers led by an organization of independent manufacturers representatives was developed to serve customers across the nation. Showrooms were opened in Chicago, New York, and other major markets.
Invincible™ has embraced technological advances in voice, data, engineering and manufacturing. CAD design to optimize space planning and design for our customers plus programmable machinery for repeatable precision and are integral to daily operations. New products have gone from concept to production in less than six weeks.
